Oakley junction improved

Oakley junction

The junction between Oakely and Claverton Down Road has been changed to improve safety.

BathNES Council undertook the works after pressure from your Liberal Democrat councillors. David Martin and Nicholas Coombes met with council officers several times to test and amend the plans.

The modifications have improved sight lines for drivers leaving the junction, in a location which has experienced several accidents and near misses in recent years.

In Bathwick, the riders will pass the Holburne Museum, going down Darlington Street, over the Bathwick Hill roundabout and out along Pulteney Road.

Cleveland Walk to be gritted in winter

Cleveland Walk will be gritted by BathNES Council this winter for the first time thanks to your Liberal Democrat councillors. Council staff have now accepted Cllr David Martin’s request to add the street to the gritting route.

Residents and local councillors have long been pressing to have Cleveland Walk gritted in winter, to support users of the school and nursing home. The introduction of the 734 bus service has now tipped the balance in favour of gritting.

The 734 bus, itself the result of work by your local councillors, has proved popular with Bathwick residents as it takes the directly into the city centre.

Fresh paint for Woodland Grove sign

Claire and David at Woodland Grove

The street sign for Woodland Grove is getting a fresh coat of paint – except the council staff left the job half done.

The sign has been painted black, ready for the lettering to be re-applied. However, having been left incomplete, the sign is rendered illegible.

Cllr David Martin and local resident Claire Jackson are now pressing BathNES Council to complete the work. They have also reported the broken sign at the top of North Road for repair.

Bus shelter at Abbey installed

18 Bus shelter at Bath Abbey

Thanks to lobbying from your local Bathwick Councillors, and from the many requests from residents, the Council has now installed a bus shelter at the number 18 bus stop at the Abbey. Considerable support for the shelter was also received from our recent survey of bus users, with 81% of respondents in favour of a shelter at this location. The shelter is a bespoke design chosen by the Council’s Public Realm team, and is delivered as part of the improvements to public transport and bus infrastructure funded through the Bath Transport Package.

Getting around Bath – transport strategy consultation

Oakley bus path

The Council has launched a new draft transport strategy for Bath and wants to hear your views on transport improvements.  The aim is to reduce congestion and allow people to move around to make the long-term economic strategy for the city work.

The launch document is in pdf form and can be downloaded here. The consultation is open until 25 July and you can respond via a series of key questions, which can be accessed from this webpage.

Cllr Nicholas Coombes commented “This is an essential step in developing a strategy and plan for transport for the next 15 years or more, so it is important for the Council to hear the views of residents”.

Safety improvements planned for Oakley junction

Oakley junction

Cllr David Martin has met again with council highway engineers to discuss the junction between Oakley, at the top of Bathwick Hill, and Claverton Down Road. Your Liberal Democrat councillors are working to make the junction safer with small modifications.

Sight lines at the junction are restricted in some directions, which makes pulling out of the junction difficult. Modifications to the line of the kerb, lining on the road and the hazard signs could improve this. Your local councillors have now negotiated a package of modifications, and have found money in this year’s highway budget to carry out the work.

Safer crossing for Warminster Road

Warminster Road crossing

A pedestrian refuge has been built on Warminster Road behind Bathwick St Mary’s Primary School. Residents, parents and your local councillors had campaigned for a safer crossing for several years.

The crossing links the back gates of the school with the alleyway from St Christopher’s Close. This helps parents walking their children to school in the morning, from both the Minster Way estate and North Road. It is also of benefit to residents of Minster Way and St Christopher’s Close when walking into the city centre.

“I’m glad to see this crossing finally built,” said Liberal Democrat councillor David Martin. “Parents and residents have been asking for this crossing for some time and I’m pleased that we have been able to deliver it. I think that we have reached a good compromise between safety and parking on Warminster Road now.”

Bathwick Hill closed for resurfacing 22-30 April

Bathwick Hill closure

Bathwick Hill will be closed between Cleveland Walk and North Road after Easter for resurfacing.

Currently Widcombe Hill is shut for resurfacing works, with traffic diverted to Bathwick Hill. BathNES Council have arranged both projects during the university holidays to minimise disruption to travel.

Bathwick Hill will be closed from 22-28 April, and then the following week 28-30 April. Cllr Nicholas Coombes has requested that notices be placed on bus stops to warn passengers of service diversions.
