Nicholas Coombes is a Liberal Democrat Councillor representing Bathwick to Bath & North East Somerset Council. He was first elected in May 2007 with Cllr Armand Edwards.

Nicholas was born in 1986 and attended school in Kent, where his parents still live. In 2004 he moved to Bath to study at Bath University, and has lived in the city ever since. He holds a BSc in Architecture plus an MA in Town Planning and works for the Planning Inspectorate’s National Infrastructure Directorate in Bristol. To maintain impartiality he no longer comments on planning matters as a councillor.

He joined the Liberal Democrat Society at Bath university and served two terms as society Chair. Currently he is a member of the Liberal Democrats, Royal Town Planning Institute, Bath Architecture 08, and Amnesty International. Nicholas is a Grade 8 classical pianist, enjoying Beethoven and other early Romantic composers. He has played once in a Holburne Museum recital and hopes to do so again in the future.

On the council Nicholas has served as Chair of the Regulatory Committee, a member of the Development Control Committee and of the Avon Pension Fund Committee and also its Investment Panel. Since returning to full time work he has scaled down his council commitments to better serve Bathwick ward.

The Bath Chronicle named him as ‘politician of the year’ in their inaugural local honours list in January 2009. In 2011 he was appointed a Trustee of the Holburne Museum.

He was re-elected in 2011 with an increased majority alongside Cllr Dr David Martin.
